Kalimeris is also known as the Kalimeris Asters. Kalimeris was first described in 1825 by the French botanist Alexandre Henri Gabriel de Cassini (1781-1832).
It is native to eastern Asia (China, Korea and Japan)and Siberia, but is also naturalised on Hawaii.
Kalimeris plants can grow to a height of 1-1.5 m.

The genus is very small with only eight species:
Kalimeris incisa
Kalimeris indica = Indian Aster
Kalimeris integrifolia
Kalimeris lancifolia
Kalimeris mongolica = Genghis Khan Aster
Kalimeris pinnatifida = Double Japanese Aster
Kalimeris shimadae
